Remaining Schedule for the U.S. Presidential Election
1. General Election (Popular Vote)
Date: Tuesday, November 5, 2024
Voters across the United States will cast their ballots in the general election for president and vice president. Each state will tally its popular vote to determine which candidate receives its electoral votes, based on either the winner-takes-all rule or proportional allocation, as in Maine and Nebraska.
2. Electoral College Vote
Date: Monday, December 16, 2024
The electors chosen by each state will meet in their respective state capitals to formally cast their votes for president and vice president. These votes will then be sent to Congress for official counting.
3. Congressional Vote Count
Date: Tuesday, January 7, 2025
A joint session of Congress will convene to count the electoral votes and officially declare the president-elect and vice president-elect.
4. Inauguration Day
Date: Monday, January 20, 2025
The president-elect and vice president-elect will be inaugurated, officially beginning their four-year term in office.
